Lana Del Rey “Freak” Video Premiere

So, last week Lana Del Rey decided to treat Los Angeles to a premiere of her new video for “Freak” at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California. Well, it just so happens that I live close enough to go, so I did just that. My bf and I bought our $5 tickets and drove to L.A. listening to “Freak” to get in the mood. To be honest, “Freak” isn’t and wasn’t my favorite off of “Honeymoon.” I’m more of a “Honeymoon,” “Music To Watch Boys To,” “The Blackest Day” kind of guy.

Okay, so we get there and the line is wrapped around the building, like, the end of the line is nearly connected to the front. I see that and immediately get discouraged, but then I thought, they have to let us in, we have a purchased ticket. So, we get in and get great spots on the floor. It’s not as packed as I thought it was going to be. Emma Roberts kept staring at us, probably because we were staring at her, I spotted Lana’s sister, Chuck, and the girls from “Music To Watch Boys To.”

We bought two premiere posters to commemorate the experience and to match our little Tropico posters. Lana comes out, sings “Honeymoon,” “West Coast,” and “Video Games” with piano and guitar accompanists and I nearly crap my pants. Like, I had to stand and cross my legs so the voodoo didn’t slip out of my sweaty crack.

Once Lana gets to showing the video, I’m excited, but also hungry. So, I ask my bf if he wants to leave early and go eat. I know, I’m selfish and should have wanted to stay so I could be face to face with Lana and ask her where the hell “Life is Beautiful” is, but I was so hungry I started to nibble on the skin around my fingernails.

All in all, the show was awesome and it was freaking $5. I mean, who knows when Lana will announce a proper concert?

 

 

 

 

FKA twigs “Good To Love”

This is just damn beautiful. Her voice, the melody, the atmospheric sounds, the voice layering, the build up. F*ck.

The video was pretty to look at too, but the song is what makes it. I kind of lost my way with FKA twigs when she released the “M3LL155x” EP. Immediately after listening to that EP, I was excited off of the high from all the visuals she had provided, but after that, I never found myself listening to it. Parts of LP1 were magic and parts were just not my taste.

Although, with “Good To Love” I am ready to indulge, put my pearls on and caress them while I listen to the beautiful sounds she gives us.

The Weeknd Surprises L.A. With Lana Del Rey on The Madness Tour

I kid you not, I had just finished telling my boyfriend “wouldn’t it be cool if Lana came out and sang “Prisoner”with The Weeknd?”

Then, bam! Lana slides onto the stage like the chanteuse she is and I acted a damn fool. I started to scream like a 12  year old girl who just saw Justin Bieber’s weenie pics for the first time.

Ariana Grande Releases New Music Video And Song “Focus.”

I go back and forth with my love for Ariana Grande. Sometimes I love her, sometimes I “nothing” her. At times, I love to hate on her, but lets be real, when I’m “hating” on her, its because I want her to do well. I feel like I’m her Tia Leti with orange-blonde curly, wet hair with a whole can of hairspray keeping my hair looking “wet” like ramen noodles.

After listening to her latest single “Focus,” I couldn’t help but think of 2000’s rap sensation Mystikal during the chorus. “Focus” is a meatier version of Ariana’s previous single “Problem.” Okay, hear me out. I liked “Focus” and I already have time set aside tomorrow afternoon to blast the song and create my own lip-sync routine to it, but thats it. I just liked it. Now, when “Problem” came out I thought it was the most blasé song. Then, out of nowhere I was aching to hear it 12 times in a row.

Just watched the video and I LOVE all of the looks Ariana has in the video. The silver hair and the thigh high boots are whats getting me though. Like, I have to fan myself because she is owning those looks. And when she started dancing in the star outfit? I blacked out.

Both the song and video for “Focus” are very reminiscent of “Problem,” but hey, that formula worked and got Ariana a # hit so, why not take the Mariah Carey route and have a signature sound for lead singles and a signature look for videos? Where can I preorder your album Ari?

Adele Says “Hello”

And it starts, now.

Adele has been absent from the music scene since the promotional campaign for “21” came to an end. And I don’t mean absent in the sense of other pop stars where they’re all over magazine ads and television, I mean, Adele actually got married, had a child, and lived her life type-of-absent.

Fittingly, “Hello” is her new single and at first I thought, “meh.” Then I got home and watched the music video with my boyfriend and started foaming at the mouth because out of nowhere, it just clicked. Could have been that things are just cooler when he’s around or that Adele looked sensational in the video. Cheekbones on point. Hair blowing in the wind. Yes. Show us what Mariah has taught you Adele.

I’ve already preordered the vinyl here. And I’ll probably buy a copy from Target because they have 3 exclusive bonus tracks. One of the tracks “Lay Me Down” just MIGHT be a Sam Smith cover. If it is, I want my tombstone to say “Even as an adult, he thought caca jokes were funny.”

NEW ADELE SONG AND VIDEO, “HELLO,” TO PREMIERE TONIGHT

Come 11:30 PM PST time, no other song will matter for, I’d say, the next week. Adele is back after selling over 30 million copies of her previous album, “21.” The rumored promo for “25” is sensational, unique, and an all-out event. Curiosity surrounds the album regarding how the album will sound, topics of the songs, and also with streaming becoming more dominant and physical album sales dwindling even more so, how the album will fare sales wise.

Adele tweeted an open letter yesterday explaining how she approached “25” and apologized for the 4 year wait.

I seriously want to quit my job and just report on all things Adele. As you all know, I’m obsessed with Lana Del Rey and she has unique ways of marketing, but Lana seems to be scaling back on television performances and all things “being in the spotlight.” Whereas Adele will dominate EVERYTHING.

The track listing last also been released and I’m glad she doesn’t have 99 songs on it. A good, solid, 11 songs. Hopefully none are “filler” tracks, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Adele is coming! Adele is coming!

Pretty sure everyone involved in mainstream music is getting ready to be overshadowed by Adele. Her new album is slated to be released in November, so a single released within the next weeks is very likely.

Coming off the heels of her Diamond selling album “21,” Adele is predicted to dominate music once again. Her rumored promo campaign is insane with exclusive appearances on NBC and this “guerrilla” way of introducing her music to the public.

I kid you not, I’m feeling things inside. Fall is always the most exciting time for mainstream music. All the heavy hitters release their music and its interesting to experience all of the innovative ways they do so.

Get your tissues out because this sounds like it’s a continuation of “Someone Like You.”

Lana Releases “Music To Watch Boys To” Music Video

Why wouldn’t I be walking into my first class of the day when Lana released the video for “Music To Watch Boys To?” Lana likes to release things when I’m in class. Ah, well. I had to wait 4 hours to watch, but when I did I was so happy I could die. See what I did there?

The video is black and white, with a splash of color. Lana looks gorgeous and the backgrounds were cute and a little kitsch. It reminded me a little of “Video Games” with spliced vintage clips mixed with scenes of Lana, but this time, most of the clips were filmed specifically for this video (except the pink flamingos.) While I do miss the crisp, high quality, bigger budget videos Lana started with, i.e.: “Born To Die,” “Blue Jeans,” I do like that Lana is keeping true to how she wants her image to be portrayed. Here’s to at least ONE more video from the “Honeymoon” era.

Listen: Sam Smith “Writing’s On The Wall” Bond Theme

Wow! The music is opulent. It goes from small to big in an extravagant way and it sounds exciting. I can’t get over how great the music is!

Sam Smiths vocals on “Writing’s On The Wall” is flawless in parts, then gets a little whiney in others. The actual chorus is so minimal that it brings a wonderful contrast to the grand sound of the rest of the song. “Writing’s On The Wall” is not bad by any means, but I just always feel like Bond Themes have a certain sexiness to them. Smith’s take on a Bond Theme is sounds more like a love song than a song that has to do with spies, carnage, danger, and casual intimacy.

I’ve already listened to the song three times and preordered the vinyl for “Writing’s On The Wall” so of course I’m into it, just wishing that Lana Del Rey had the opportunity to conquer with her take on a Bond Theme.

Lana Del Rey Performs 3 Songs on BBC Radio 1

We need an Unplugged session from Lana Del Rey, ASAP.

Lana just finished an interview and performance on BBC Radio 1 and it was one of the better interviews that we’ve gotten from her since the start of her career. While the interview session was a bit short, the questions and answers were well thought out, full, and you could hear the passion and excitement from Lana as she answered them. Lana talked about how she loved the word “Honeymoon,” which is why she used it for the album, how much artistic freedom her labels grant her, and that she has started writing again a few months ago. More information than we got from the Apple Music session.

Lana also gave 3 of the strongest live performances she’s given in a long while. Lana performed “High By The Beach,” “Terrence Loves You,” and “Honeymoon.” “High By The Beach” was good, but the studio version is far superior. “Terrence Loves You” was goddamn magic. The intro, the vulnerability in Lana’s vocals, the highs and lows her voice passed through, bliss. I have to say that “Honeymoon” was my favorite though. This version was minus the strings and opened with an electric guitar, played gently. I imagine this is how “Honeymoon” would have sounded if this era were a continuation of “Ultraviolence,” sonically. Stripped down, gorgeous, sparse, elegant, and gritty.
