Arcade Fire “Reflektor”

I’ve been on quite the pop kick lately, so it’ll take a few listens and views to get into the new Arcade Fire. Arcade Fire are a phenomenal band and that’s all I can come up with to say without forcing it. The video gives me nothing really and the song would make it on a playlist that I would listen to on a night drive (that’s a good thing.)

I don’t love it and don’t hate it. I “nothing” it.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Sacrilege” Music Video (Reversed)

The YYY’s are my favorite band. The energy that they exude through music is remarkable and makes me clench my butt cheeks. Each album has a distinct sound and none of them sound alike. They have their unique signature on their music but experiment with their sound. Reminds me of No Doubt.

The Yeah’s latest single and video for “Sacrilege” is in full promo mode and it is nothing short of spectacular. The song is low-fi, gritty, but mature YYY’s and the video is just, wow! Shown from end to beginning, the telling story touches on the hypocrisy of society and makes you go “nah-uh.” A fan was computer savvy enough to reverse the reverse of the video to show it from beginning to end because you know you’d be curious as hell to see it in regular format, like I was.

Get into it and if you don’t know the YYY’s, let me introduce you to your new favorite band.

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Sacrilege”

WTF?!

YYY’s are back and I feel like I’m a vampire because I have been slayed, put to rest, DEAD. The track isn’t as nuts as a lot of their previous work, but it sounds like it would fit in on the ISIS Ep and that is definitely a GREAT thing. Got the choir in the background, yaaaas!

I can’t wait for them to tour. You betta believe that I am going to wear my “Sunday best” and go to C.H.U.R.C.H.

The Postal Service New Song “A Tattered Line of String”

A new song from the upcoming 10th Anniversary re-release of The Postal Service’s one and only album “Give Up” has been posted on their Facebook page titled “A Tattered Line of String” and its very Postal Service, but since we’ve never heard it, it sounds so fresh!

I used to listen to “Give Up” when I was a little indie girl, back in the day. It’s a solid album and its mellow, upbeat, sad lyrics mix is kind of timeless in an electronically dominated music world.

My little sister is going to pee in her pants.

The Postal Service Reunion

The Postal Service is a side project made up of Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie and Jimmy Tamborello. The band name “The Postal Service” came to fruitation simply because Ben and Jimmy would send each other musical ideas via the U.S. Postal Service. “Give Up,”  the collabo’s only album, was released in 2003 and was a critically acclaimed and adored by fans. With platinum status, The Postal Service never intended to make more music and it doesn’t seem like they are making more anytime soon.

With confirmed rumors that The Postal Service will make an appearance at Coachella 2013, they will perform songs from “Give Up” in promotion of the reissue of the album for its 10 year anniversary.

“Give Up” is one of those albums that is timeless. The lyrics, the music, the tone, the atomostphere the music creates. “Such Great Heights” and “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” are by far The Postal Service’s most popular songs. My little sister has said numerous times that they are the band that she would most like to see live, but she would never get the chance because the album was just a side project. I text her about this revelation and she probably got so wet that she needs to wear a wet floor sign around her neck.

Ra Ra Riot “Beta Love” New Album/Single. Free Download.

Ra Ra Riot is one of those bands that you can easily listen to on a road trip and not get bored. Their songs are well constructed and well executed . The songs they craft are intricate enough to keep you interested, but not simple enough to make you feel stupid.

Recorded in Oxford, Mississippi, “Beta Love” is the band’s third studio album set to be released on January 22, 2013. “Beta Love” doubles as the first single’s title and the track gives fan’s of Ra Ra Riot’s signature string driven sound something different. Opting for a synth heavy sound, it sounds like Ra Ra Riot is diving into their creativity to shake things up a bit, but not too much. The strings are sill very there, but it’s a poppier, lighter sound. No need to fret, with their artistic growth, once you hear Wes’ vocals it’ll make you feel right at home and you’ll have “Beta Love” on repeat.

Download the first single “Beta Love” here on NPR fo’ free.

Vampire Weekend “Unbelievers”

Last night, Vampire Weekend performed a new song “Unbelievers” on Jimmy Kimmel Live with their faces painted for Halloween. “Unbelievers” has Vampire Weekend’s signature sound that sounds like perfectly calculated math. You know what I’m talking about, their songs sound like culture and math. It’s hard to explain, so just listen and you’ll know what I mean, and if you don’t, then you’re just not smart enough for their music. ZING!

Tegan and Sara Return With “Closer”

I can see myself being friends with Tegan and Sara. We’d have sushi dinners together then head back to one of our houses and watch Britney Spears concert DVD’s with a homemade cocktail in hand. That, or we’d go to Applebee’s and split a sampler platter.

All I know for sure is, they’re back and in dance mode. Now, when I read that they were going to have a dance-pop sound I rolled my eyes and smacked my lips together, but after listening to the track, it’s real cute. It’s light and the synths make it sound authentically 80’s, not try-hard 80’s like a lot of artists who say their sound is 80’s inspired and sounds nothing like the 80’s. Say 80’s again…

“Closer” is the first track released from their forthcoming album due January 2013. The Canadian twins are currently on tour with The Black Keys and are set to open for The Killer’s.

I love them and the song. In terms of where the song’s theme comes from, Tegan revealed to Rolling Stone,”‘In short, I was writing about my youth – a time when we got closer by linking arms and walking down our school hallway, or talked all night on the telephone about every thought or experience we’d ever had. It wasn’t necessarily even about hooking up or admitting your feelings back then. In fact, that rarely happened. It was the anticipation of something maybe happening that was truly exciting and satisfying. We were perpetually getting closer, yet we rarely got physical with one another, if ever.'”

Panty Dropper

  1. The Holy Trinity, A.K.A. The XX, just made me fan myself like a cougar in heat.

Right on the heels of releasing the first track, “Angels,” off their sophomore album, “Coexist,” Romy, Oliver, and Jamie subtly release “Chained.”

“Chained” is sexy. The beat makes me want to lightly run my fingertips up and down my own body and coo in satisfaction. The vocals are smooth and Oliver Sim could get it anytime, anyplace.

Although, the 2 tracks we’ve heard from “Coexist” are nothing we haven’t heard from them, The XX continue to impress with their cool music, cool sound, cool lyrics, and cool vocals.

Ok, slap me if I’m wrong, but I think a collaboration with Mariah Carey would be mind blowing. Mariah has those soft, whisper vocals that would glide through an XX beat. I need this in my life and I know I will die unhappy because this type of collaboration will never come into fruition.

3/5 VMA Video of the Year Nominees Are Dumb

Seems like it was slim pickens this year because Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” was awful. Goyote’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” looked like something Tegan and Sara wouldn’t do five years ago. Drake’s “Take Care” featuring Rihanna, well, I didn’t even know there was a video for that. I’m just going to assume it’s lame, like the rest of his videos. Well, I’ve never watched a Drake video, so I’m just being sassy. The only two worth the Video of the Year nomination are Rihanna’s “We Found Love” and M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls.

I’m going to go ahead and say that “We Found Love” is Rihanna’s best video to date although, I do hate that denim mess she wears when she storms out of the car.

M.I.A’s “Bad Girls” better win Video of the Year. I’m serious. That video had me “bouncing like a trampoline” in my room, almost getting caught by my sister walking by. When I rap that song in the car, I have the same accent she does. Only thing that bothers me about the video is that I can’t drive my car off to one side. One of my tires has something stuck in it so I’m a little iffy on trying that until I can get that taken care of.

And don’t say “oh the VMA’s don’t matter.” Yes.They.Do. They matter to 12 year old girls like me.

The real Video of the Year wasn’t nominated, but its posted below.
